Laura Holway
MA — Psychotherapist
Whether you have been pulled to therapy by significant life events, challenges with self-acceptance, relationship struggles, parenting challenges, or difficulty coping with symptoms of anxiety or depression, Laura believes that therapy offers an invitation into a deeper connection with ourselves and our loved ones. By taking the time to gently untangle the deep patterns fueling our symptoms and behavior (often related to our early environment and attachments), we can begin to make more conscious choices about how we want to show up in our lives.
Laura’s approach is holistic, relational, and trauma-informed, and draws on aspects of attachment and family systems theories, psychodynamic therapy, and NARM (a complex/developmental trauma modality). She supports adult individuals navigating life transitions (identity, career, divorce, grief), codependency and relationship difficulties, anxiety disorders, and parenting challenges—among other things. She has a particular interest in working with individuals who have experienced developmental trauma, or parents who notice their own family of origin/childhood experiences and patterns resurfacing as they parent. Laura believes that by engaging in our own healing process and better understanding our pasts, we can make new choices as parents.
Laura holds a compassionate, collaborative, and sometimes humor-filled space for exploration, and respects that each individual’s process, needs, and goals are one of a kind.
Laura sees:

- Anxiety & Depression
- Trauma
- Relationship Issues
- Self Esteem

Michele Michaelson
MA, LMFT – Independent Practitioner
I strive to make my office a safe, supportive place where we can listen and talk honestly about real things that matter deeply to you.
Life is growth. Therapy helps us uncover and discover our beautiful and essential selves.
I will support you as you face the internal and external challenges in your way. We may focus on uncovering your true and essential self: from painful and traumatic experiences, self-destructive coping-strategies, oppressive messages internalized from family and society, and all the “shoulds” that don’t reflect your true values and fundamental worthiness.
We may also examine your values, fears, and desires. And, more importantly, we will identify and develop your personal and relational strengths, as you clarify and work toward being yourself and meeting your goals.
A note from PHA Wellness:
Michele is known locally for her work with couples and her skill in helping couples move from being painfully stuck toward working as a true team. She recognizes the important step couples must make going from an “I” perspective to becoming a “we” and from the “me” perspective, to becoming “us.” Michele helps couples of all kinds learn that the optimal outcome in relationship is win-win.
Michele understands that power imbalances, dominance, and “win-lose” dynamics are incompatible with the goal of having an effective and loving partnership. Michele offers the wisdom she’s gained through her own life challenges, including a stillbirth and early pregnancy loss, divorce, and parenting a child with special needs.
In her career, she has worked with impoverished and emotionally-disturbed children in Chicago, computers programmers in Midtown Manhattan, and “hippie-homeschooled” her two daughters.
Michele has pursued research and advanced training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders/maternal mental health, grief and loss, including pregnancy and infant loss, and couples counseling, including Emotionally-Focused couple therapy (EFT).
Michele can help with:
- Pregnancy and postpartum adjustment
- Perinatal Loss & Infant Death

- Couples Counseling
- Sexual connection and fulfillment
- Gender and power dynamics

Sonja Theobald
MSN, PMH-NP — Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Sonja Theobald
MSN, PMH-NP — Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
A seemingly simple act of kindness can be a profoundly healing thing. Sonja’s diverse nursing background has shown her that we are all one step, one accident, one situation away from something impacting our mental health. This sense of how unique we all are is what informs and motivates Sonja’s practice. She loves people’s stories: learning about their culture, backgrounds, and journies in a way that illuminates the “why” of who they are.
This passion led Sonja to return to her education and earn her second Master’s in Nursing, this time as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, which allows her to put these strengths to use directly where they will be most effective—mental healthcare. She demonstrates this by reaching those who are most in need of care, such as children, adolescents, peri/postnatal patients, and substance use populations. Sonja uses an empathetic approach to provide holistic, individualized treatment for her patients.
She is able to provide diagnostic assessments, medication management, and psychotherapy for all ages. She believes in working together as a team—that it is important for patients to bring ideas and suggestions they believe can help improve or impact their mental health. Sonja’s role in her patient’s mental health is a part of a larger picture of who they are, and Sonja works with people to help care for that entire person. She doesn’t simply offer psychiatric services, she offers people encouragement, kindness, and support.
